The Mighty Thor – Marvel Superheroes 1966 Cartoons

Featured Cartoon: The Mighty Thor – Marvel Superheroes 1966 Cartoon Collection

Thor is a fictional superhero who appears in publications published by Marvel Comics. The character first appeared in Journey into Mystery #83 (Aug. 1962) and was created by editor-plotter Stan Lee, scripter Larry Lieber, and penciller Jack Kirby.

Debuting in the Silver Age of Comic Books, the character is based on the Thor of Norse mythology. He has starred in several ongoing series and limited series, and has been a perennial member of the superhero team the Avengers, appearing in each of the four volumes. The character has also appeared in associated Marvel merchandise including animated television series, clothing, toys, trading cards and video games.

About The Cartoons: The cartoons ran initially in broadcast syndication from September 1, 1966 to December 1, 1966. The series, produced in color, had extremely limited animation produced by xerography, consisting of photocopied images taken directly from the comics and manipulated to minimize the need for animation production. The cartoons were presented as a series of static comic-strip panel images; generally the only movement involved the lips, when a character spoke, the occasional arm or leg, or a fully animated black silhouette.

  1. I remember these well, as they were chopped up and aired during the local TV station's live kid show.
One per half hour Monday through Friday and then on Friday, two episodes to end the 3 part adventure.

  2. I wish they would officially release these on DVD. Especially with the success of the Marvel movies.
